News 9 has learned that two key police unions in the state’s largest city will be giving their full support to Mowers in both the NH-01 primary, and then in the general election if Mowers is the GOP nominee.
The Manchester Association of Police Supervisors and the Manchester Police Patrolman’s Association previously backed Mowers in the 2020 contest.
Association Presidents Joseph Lorenzo and Kyle Daly released a joint statement: “Mowers will deliver what our police officers need to keep our communities safe – period. Our men and women on the job will never have to doubt the support of their elected representative for one moment,” said Lorenzo and Daly. “We look forward to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Matt in this election and when he serves New Hampshire in Congress.”
Mowers called the early endorsement ‘an honor.’
“I will always stand with our law enforcement community – not use our police as a political punching bag like Chris Pappas,” Mowers said. “He’s been on the wrong side of backing our police – he’s campaigned with candidates who brag about defunding the police and voted to remove critical protections like qualified immunity – something even too extreme for Sen. Hassan and Sen. Shaheen.”
Both associations endorsed Pappas in his first campaign for Congress in 2018.
